Welcome to Fall River Flyrods, a small rod building shop based in South East Idaho where we build fine bamboo fly rods and custom graphite fly rods. Each fly rod is built one at a time, with the attention of a master craftsman looking after every detail.

The seeds of this shop were planted in 1997, at a time when I had a very specific requirement for a new fly rod, but was not able to find a factory produced product which satisfied my unique prerequisite. As a result, I built my first fly rod and started down this path of servicing customers who wanted more than what is available in the general marketplace.

Based on our beginning we consider everything when we make a custom order. In support of that idea, every step of the process revolves around keeping our customer’s requirements, wants and needs in focus. I strive to produce fly rods which are not only outstanding fishing tools, but aesthetically unique and pleasing by using techniques which have been cast aside by manufacturers over the years.

Based in the Intermountain West, along a seam where the Great Basin Desert meets the Rocky Mountains, we are located in a unique and favorable location when it comes to fly fishing and evaluating our work on building fly rods. Our day trips include famous locations such as the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River, South Fork of the Snake River, Teton River, Silver Creek, the Big and Little Wood Rivers and Idaho’s Upper Blackfoot River. For a weekend of fine fishing, we head to places such as the Green River, Provo River, Salmon River, Beaverhead River, Bitterroot River, or the Big Hole.

With so many fine opportunities, we rarely venture outside of Montana, Idaho and Utah, but when you are out this way…keep your eyes open, you could run into us at any time. When you do meet us, be prepared to bend, shake, and cast fly rods…it’s what we are all about.

The Silk Line Dryers / Line Winders arrived with the post today, safe and well protected in their parcel. I have already tested one of them, by winding a new Phoenix Silk Line #4 on my Hardy Featherweight reel. Since I have a Struble Line Winder from earlier, I was wandering how it would work without a reel seat like the one on the Struble. It was no problem, it all worked out fine. Your winder is really nice, it has it's own natural feeling and personality – and very practical in use and transport.

Hi Julie and Jason,

I wanted to let you know that the ferrule plugs arrived today and they are fantastic. Only a minimum amount of sanding to make a perfect fit and they look great. The ebony is the perfect match for the black trim wraps on the rod and the subtle shape and minimalist design of the plugs add the final touch of class to the whole package. Did you get some pictures of these plugs or would you like some pictures of the plugs installed on the rod? I ask because I think you should showcase some of the little custom touches and projects you tackle.

Thanks for your email. I meant to call you earlier today but got too busy at work.

I went to the P.O. yesterday & and found a little box waiting for me. I took it home, opened it up and nearly fell over upon inspecting the contents: The grip & reel seat are absolutely STUNNING!

Jason, you do amazing work! Everything exceeded my expectations, from the quality of the cork & reel seat wood, to the service, to the packaging, but especially the workmanship: Beautiful - just beautiful!

It goes without saying, but I can't wait to build my rod. Especially now that I have such gorgeous component to compliment my tri-hex blank!

Thank you for the follow up, I am glad to receive it. I have had my "Bad Axe", Sage 5 weight only out a couple of times this season, once early in the season while taking a break from steelhead hunting to fish a smaller side stream and I found some nice brookies and resident rainbows. I found the rod performance excellent, especially since I was fishing a stream that was probably a bit too small for a 5 weight. It is fast acting and tight, controlling the line well. The craftsmanship made my fishing buddies jealous and you might see them order one sometime. More recently, I used it in open water on a local lake and caught several nice Rock Bass on terrestrials. It was also a joy to cast with plenty of room to have 50 - 75 feet of line out and it managed it well.
